There was no ‘WesCEF’ 35 years ago when Luigi Moreschi started working with CSBP Fertilisers on 3 October 1989.
Luigi opted for a job interview with CSBP over The Ag Department (now DPIRD) based on many Friday afternoons at the UWA Tav listening to a friend “go on” about how good his job was with CSBP.
So, freshly graduated and without even a CV yet, Luigi met with the then Sales Manager Murray Browne and a week later started a career that still keeps him interested.
After a stint in the Trials team in Kwinana, Luigi headed into regional WA and has spent the last 30 years in field, area and account management based out of Dongara, servicing growers in the Mingenew and Irwin Shires.
With 35 years up his sleeve it’s not a surprise that Luigi has seen a few changes in the business and across the Agricultural industry.
Luigi has seen the industry change from its grass roots, so to speak, as farmers’ fertiliser usage and choices evolved – with CSBP now selling more than 150 products to support growers and the diverse nutritional requirements of their farms.
He’s witnessed changes in farm size and ownership, watched the shift from rail to road trains for fertiliser transport, and also observed changes in how farmers seed and the machinery used.
“I was involved with some of the initial work in bringing Flexi-N to the market in the early 2000’s. One of my then customers was one of only four State-wide to get the first Flexi-N tank and bulk load of Flexi-N to use on crop.” Luigi said.
“Many farms have amalgamated and been bought out by Corporations and other farms are now predominantly cropping over running livestock. Our teams were smaller and spread across more growers and now our teams are bigger and our growers are less, but the farms are bigger and producing on a larger scale.” He said.
Growing up in Lake King, Luigi thought (very happily) that being a farmer was his future.
However, when he was 12 his family moved to Perth and it wasn’t till Luigi found his role with CSBP that he found a way to get back to his agricultural roots.
“My first love would have been to be a farmer, but circumstance didn’t enable me to go down that road. My job with CSBP is one step removed from farming, but I’m still involved with some of the decision making aspects of farming.
“That’s why I have stayed with CSBP as there has been no other job that has taken my interest and CSBP has been good to me.” Luigi said.
You’re not likely to see Luigi too often in the Big Smoke, as he and his wife enjoy living in Dongara, a country town 350km north of Perth and about 45min south of Geraldton.
“Every time I go to Perth, the traffic drives me insane and I am thankful that I don’t have to put up with it in Dongara!” he said.
Congratulations on your 35 year milestone Luigi and thank you for your valuable contribution to WesCEF, and in particular, the CSBP team.
